In and around Arlington
We’re thrilled to announce that Champing is now available at Arlington Baptist Church in Bibury, the village that William Morris famously described as the most beautiful in England. This little stone chapel also boasts a renovated schoolroom, as it was once home to a ‘British School,’ built to educate the poor children in the village. Recent renovations mean that you can enjoy a modern kitchen and bathroom, hot, running water, and even heating for the cooler months; this is Champing at its most luxurious!
*Please note that although this church has a capacity of four, one extra, child-sized bed is available. Please call or email to request.
Breakfast: Arlington Baptist Chapel offers breakfast hampers upon request; these cost £20 and feed two people. Please just get in touch with our Church Mouse (you’ll receive contact info upon confirmation of your booking) at least one week in advance of your arrival.
Dogs: Your furry friends are welcome to join you for your Champing stay, we kindly ask that they stay out of the school room, which is separate to where you will be sleeping.
Rambling and roaming
Fancy a walk in the countryside? At Arlington Baptist Chapel, the Cotswold Way, the Macmillan Way, the Monarch’s Way, and the Thames Path are all on your doorstep.
Guided walking tours of the Arlington and Bibury are also available for a fee – please contact our Church Mouse.
Shops
Dining options abound here! There’s Bibury Trout Farm with a delicious seasonal menu, The Catherine Wheel pub for a cosy atmosphere, and numerous other cafes, coffee shops and restaurants. The Twig, for example, offers takeaways, while Eleven Bibury offers an elevated dining experience.
Activities and events
The villages of Arlington and Bibury are separated only by beautiful bridges over the River Coln. Here, you’re just steps away from the famous Arlington Row cottages, built in the late-fourteenth century as a wool store. If you’re looking for a day out, however, Cirencester makes a wonderful destination, with its Roman roots. The Roman amphitheatre and Corinium Museum are both must-sees.
If you a church architecture enthusiast (you’ll fit right in here!) then the Anglican churches of St Marys Bibury and St Mary’s Fairford both have historic stained-glass windows worth visiting.
