St Thomas in Friarmere, Greater Manchester
This Georgian preaching church sits high above the town of Delph on the edge of Saddleworth Moor. For obvious reasons, the locals call it “Heights Chapel” and despite its brooding appearance, the interior is charming with vibrant stained glass and the outside has breath-taking views on all sides. The 2016 film A Monster Calls was partly filmed at this church and with CGI trickery, all was blown to smithereens. But not really – it’s still very much there and a lovely atmospheric place to stay with far reaching views.
