I was so impressed with the Champing Team, who gracefully put up with us growing from a group of 4 to a group of 9 prior to our arrival, with various additions to the booking being requested and lots of questions from the group! We arrived at Langport last weekend and spent the most amazing evening in the church, which is really quite stunning. Luckily a few of us were awake early enough to see the sunrise over the graveyard and the mist hanging over the Somerset levels. We are converted Champers and are already trying to decide which church to champ in next time! Thank you so much for an amazing experience!

This night goes down on our list of one of the loveliest things we’ve done ! It was our first time champing and Langport was possibly a good place to start as it was not remote, had a perfectly acceptable loo (just outside), a water supply (at a tap on the outside wall) a drinking water dispenser (inside) and the church is served with electricity. The camp beds were positioned on top of a wooden platform, covered by a carpet, which ensured that we were both warm and comfortable (it was, of course, 21 June). We loved listening to music as we relaxed and watched the sun shine in through the beautiful stained glass windows that surrounded us. Ahhh … Good memories … and I’d certainly do it again.

What a fantastic experience champing at the amazing All Saints Church in Langport. Can’t recommend it enough to anyone. There were 8 of us including two little ones (7 and 8) as well as 2 plus 70 year old and everyone of us thoroughly enjoyed our totally unique and memorable stay. Beautiful church to explore, epic games of hide and seek, grand re-enactments of favourite speeches and joke telling from the magnificent pulpit, judge and jury role play fun, mini disco, singing , dancing and hilarious flash mobs. For our first experience with kids it was perfect that there was lighting and a kettle and the lovely home comforts of pillows, blankets and tea and coffee. The children loved finding the massive old key, and the first reaction of entering this grand, amazing building and then seeing our cosy beds and twinkly lights was priceless. Truly something us adults will never forget and I’m sure will be one of the kids lasting incredible memories if you get the chance do it!

A really beautiful church with some spectacular stain glass windows. This was my third champing experience and this was the biggest church so far and the only one to be in a town. As usual, the champing team had organised everything for our arrival, and my grandson was thrilled with his champing set, he had great fun exploring the church trying to find all the items in his book. A really lovely family experience! Thank you.

We arrived at the church wondering whether we would regret our decision to champ, but those fears were totally gone within minutes. The church was stunning, the information pack was very helpful, and everything we could have needed was laid out for us to make our stay surprisingly comfortable.

We are now converts and will be champing round the country!

Absolutely loved it, its such a different experience and who ever thought of it should get a medal lol, not only is it a cheap and unique stay but it also helps the church out to keep it in the good condition its in, well done volunteers as well! Its brilliant we were left coffee, tea, hot choc and sugar, all the fairy lights and battery operated candles added such a lovely touch. The toilet is outside in the graveyard and I was a bit surprised as I’ve never seen a ‘dry’ toilet before but its a good invention and I want one in my house! Unfortunately the night we stayed there was a massive storm, thunder, lightning, monsoon type rain the lot lol so a we had to cross our legs for a good few hours because going outside would have resulted in getting a bath from the rain, but no one can control the weather. We will 100% book again and I have my eye on one in Devon. Thankyou to everyone who looks after the churches and their guests, you are all brilliant.

We loved our stay at All Saints church in Langport. We (two adults, three children) arrived at dusk and made our way in to the beautifully lit church. Fairy lights and battery powered candles were very pretty and a few of the main church lights were also on. It is a gorgeous space, plenty of room for the 5 of us. The stain glass windows are stunning and the acoustics of the church were incredible. I couldn’t find all the light switches, so had to leave one light on – it was at the back of the church so didn’t bother us sleeping, but tips of light switch location would be useful. We will definitely do it again. Such a lovely experience.

We stayed for four nights and really enjoyed the opportunity to absorb the atmosphere of the church in detail. I loved waking up in the light coming through the stained glass windows. The family of house-martins who lived in the church were very companionable. Everything was clean and comfortable. It was wonderful being able to sit outside and look out over the Somerset levels at midsummer. We also appreciated the lady who gave us the key to the vestry so we could put our things in there during the day.

My third Champing adventure, and this one’s a doozy! We slept surrounded by two walls of stained glass, and woke up bathed in light and colour. (And yes, that might seem overly poetic, but there was a real magic about it.) From the south door we could see right across the Somerset levels; All Saints is on a hill and the views are gorgeous.  Langport is a lovely town, full of interesting independent shops; we picnicked that night on MASSIVE sausage rolls from the local bakery and sharp apple juice bought from the market. Later, we stood in the churchyard under glittering skies*, the Plough dipping over the chancel of the church. What a place! I can even forgive it the outside loo.

*Very low light pollution in Somerset!

We drove to Langport from Bristol, slept overnight in the church and did a tandem tour the next day around South Somerset to stay at another champing church at Queen Camel. Langport was quiet; a nice atmosphere in the church, lovely to have the building to ourselves and think of all the people who must have visited it over the centuries. Warm enough to swim in the R Parrett near the town. Thanks to all who made it possible.

Such a lovely stay at this church! At first we thought it’d be scary but it’d be an adventure. But actually it’s super cozy and the host has made the setting so lovely and safe! It’s not even scary at Asian’s standard (as we are three Asian girls) we brought our own TV projector and managed to play some videos on YouTube (Netflix is harder coz there’s no WiFi and data is weak with those thick walls). But the whole experience was lovely and the local town was also really cute too! Loved it so much!

What a privilege! As a lover of history and someone who appreciates the slightly weirder path, I booked this stay as a treat for myself & my husband, although I’d be very happy going solo. My great grandmother lived in Langport in 1890, so it was a very personal stay- she’d have gone to this church! We live just a 15m drive away, but staying in All Saints made us feel that we’d crossed borders! It was an extremely warm night, so we made the most of the little town before heading inside. The set-up was great and very considerate with basic needs adequately catered for. My husband slept well, myself not so much, but this was mainly due to his snoring echoing around this amazing venue! We awoke to stunning mist-covered views of the levels, left at 5am (had to get back for our cat!), and felt that we’d had a genuinely special stay. I shall be booking again very soon. Thank you!
