I stayed for one night on a solo trip and had a brilliant time. It was so amazing to have the space to myself. The instructions were great and I had all the things I needed. St Mary’s is in a great spot – you’re up on the hill so you get feeling of being on your own, but there are actually houses (and a bus stop!) just outside.

I was on foot and found that the Swan in Northall was closer and easier to walk to (pavements all the way!) than the Travellers Rest. The food there was good and it was a nice friendly pub. Sadly the Heirloom cafe doesn’t open on Wednesday and there’s nowhere else in easy walking distance to get breakfast – so if you’re there on a Wednesday morning you’ll need to plan ahead.

I couldn’t get the North door open – not sure if there’s a trick to it? It was fine just to use the South door though so not a big problem.
