Emborough & Langport, Somerset!

My friend & I stayed for 1 night at The Blessed Virgin Mary & 1 night at All Saints in Langport, both in Somerset, August 2020. My dog came with us, which was very much a deciding factor in booking somewhere to stay.

Night 1:
Emborough felt fairly remote, lovely & peaceful, next to a farm with some sheep & a B&B. But within a 10 min drive there were shops & a Domino’s Pizza where we got take away to eat at the church.

Just as we were settling down to bed 2 bats started flying around, which was a little unsettling but once we turned our big torch off they stayed up their end – or were silently flying around our heads as we slept, I don’t know! But if you’re scared of bats then this isn’t the Champing location for you!
And the beds were very squeaky so bring ear plugs if you’re a light sleeper.
There was a gas stove & kettle provided with tea, coffee, & hot choc. There was no milk provided but fortunately we’d brought our own.

The next day we drove to the beautiful Cheddar Gorge, which was 20min drive away & then to Glastonbury for a wander around.

Night 2:

All Saints in Langport. When we got there we couldn’t believe we got to have this huge church all to ourselves! The stained glass windows were stunning.

We much preferred this church as it was more modern – & the beds were much more comfortable & didn’t squeak!
There was a table with tea, coffee, hot chocolate & milk laid out nicely for us. This time there was an electric kettle.

We had a lovely dinner at The Firehouse pub, just a 5min drive away.

The view of the stars from the churchyard was amazing & although it rained outside we were quite cosy inside.

The next day we drove down to Lyme Regis, about a 40min drive.

The lanterns in both of the churches were okay for mood lighting, but I’d definitely recommend taking your bright lantern/torch for finding you way around in the dark – especially to the outside loo, (as the lights in either of loos weren’t working) Both loos were very clean.

Image attached is my view of the stained glass windows from my bed in the morning.
