We crossed the pond and Champed one night at St. Mary the Virgin, Stansted Mountfitchet in September, 2018. We figured we were meant to stay there when two days prior, we found an antique plate in a Lavenham shop which commemorated St. Mary’s Stansted! We arrived by train, so visitors need to be aware that the church is not located in the town center; the walk takes about 20 minutes when hauling luggage. Our Champbot was helpful in providing us with the amenities we needed for our stay and sharing some information on the church architecture. The church has electricity, which was a nice surprise, but there is no heat and since it was the last week in September, it was cold! It was nice to have the church to ourselves, break out the camera and tripod and take photos at different times of the day. Our primary recommendation is to not have the bells ring on nights when there are Champers staying. Although the bells were lovely, they rang too late in the evening and for too long. Our Champing stay was an opportunity not to be missed for this Anglophile Champer and her reluctant Champer husband who loves her.
