No, you will have exclusive use during the hours allocated for Champing™, usually 4pm until 10am , although this may vary slightly by church or if a service or event is planned. Once the booking is confirmed and the deposit paid, no other booking will be accepted. Please note, although you have exclusive use for Champing™ some of our churches can receive a high footfall from day visitors in the summer months.

Our rates include the use of a camp bed, camp chair, blanket and cushion per person. Some churches will also have inflatable mattresses. More information about what we provide will be sent to you on payment of balance at three weeks prior to your trip.

Some churches offer bedding as an extra to hire, which includes a sleeping bag, pillow, pillow protector and pillow case. The cost is £25 per set to cover laundering and drying costs. This needs to booked in advance of your stay.

Most of our Champing™ churches are not heated, however some churches are able to offer heaters to hire at an additional cost (cost varies by church) See individual church listing for details.

Breakfast is not  included but some locations will offer a breakfast option at an additional cost. See individual listing for details. You’re welcome to bring food provisions of your own, however cooking (including BBQs) is not permitted inside the church or in the church yard, unless the church has a dedicated kitchen.

Where there is not a dedicated kitchen , we supply a kettle, crockery and cutlery. We also supply tea, coffee, hot chocolate and sugar.

Up to two, well behaved dogs are welcome apart from Champing churches at Berden and Muggleswick. Only one dog is permitted at Rotherby. Please ensure that their vaccinations and flea treatments are up to date. Dogs must not be allowed on the furniture and owners are responsible for clearing up after their pets and disposing of dog waste.

Like many historic buildings our Champing™ churches can have resident bats. They are most likely to be seen outside leaving at dusk to feed and returning at dawn, but occasionally they may be seen inside a church. Bats are a protected species and must not be harmed.

You can drink alcohol inside the church, but not in the churchyard. We do not provide alcohol but do provide glasses, a corkscrew and bottle opener.

We also provide battery operated candles, fairy lights and lanterns or torches. Please feel free to bring your own as well.

Bedding (additional to the camp beds) and breakfast are additional extras, available in select churches only.

Most churches do have lights and some have electric sockets to use. See individual church listings. Please note, Aldwincle and Wolfhampcote do not have an electricity supply.

Some churches aren’t connected to mains supply, so instead we provide bottled water. Some churches will have running water, see individual listings.

Two of our Champing™ churches have showers. Sibford Meeting House and St Thomas Church, Milnethorpe.

All churches will have a toilet. This may be a composting or dry separating loo or a mains water flushing loo. these can be inside the church or in a separate building or wooden cabin. See individual listing for details.

No, you don’t. We welcome people from all cultures and beliefs.

The buildings remain consecrated and will always be a place for contemplation, tranquility and peace.

The spaces have adapted to the requirements of humanity in the previous centuries and Champing™ is just the latest chapter in this ongoing tradition of change.

The church buildings that have passed to the care of the Churches Conservation Trust (CCT www.visitchurches.org.uk), the national charity protecting historic churches at risk wont have services.

Yes they can, and many children enjoy the unique experience that Champing offers.

Children can roam and explore the church and church yard but please be aware that these are consecrated spaces and games of football etc are not allowed.

We offer free child places for up to two children aged 15 and under in the school holidays.

Infants aged 2 and under stay free all year round. Please be aware that churches can be cold especilly in Spring or Autumn and you should consider this when bringing a very young child.

Yes, however please note that unless a church has a dedicated kitchen, that cooking is not allowed inside the church or in the courtyard.

We also recommend that you bring a sealed container to keep any food in.

No unfortunately not, naked flames are a fire risk and candle wax can stain.

We provide  battery-operated candles, fairy lights, camping lanterns and torches. Please feel free to bring your own torches and lamps as countryside settings can get very dark.
